“The Sound of Silence” is the song that propelled the 1960s folk music duo Simon and Garfunkel to popularity (“è la canzone che ha portato al successo il duo Simon e Garfunkel negli anni Sessanta. E’ stata scritta da Paul Simon It was written in February 1964 by Paul Simon in the aftermath of the November 22, 1963 assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. After adding audio sweetening and being re-mixed, this commercial version has been called the “quintessential folk rock song of all time” In the U.S. it is one of duo’s three most popular hits, along with “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Mrs Robinson”.
Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. is the debut album by folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, released October 19, 1964. The album was initially a flop, having been released in the shadow of The Beatles having just landed with their music. This resulted in
Paul Simon moving to England and Art Garfunkel resuming his university studies at Columbia University in New York City. Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. was re-released in January 1966 to capitalize on their newly found radio success with a later re-mixed version of The Sounds of Silence, and so the album reached #30 on the Billboard pop charts.
It is my personal favorite song of the duo Simon and Garfunkel.
