Molto bravo. Il debito verso Basquiat è così dichiarato che gli viene automaticamente condonato. Ci si può chiedere che senso ha riprendere un artista (importante senza dubbio) di trent’anni fa. Troppi per essere un seguace, pochi per un riesame critico. Pur senza conoscere personalmente l’artista, sospetto che il “senso” della sua pittura non sia fra le sue principali preoccupazioni. Sospetto che si diverta un mondo a fare quello che fa, beato lui. Personalmente trovo i suoi quadri anche migliori di quelli di Basquiat, che pure mi piacciono.
Non credo che l’originalità sia stata sempre considerata un pregio dell’opera dell’uomo.
Credo che sia considerata un valore a partire dai tempi moderni. Per poi diventare “il ” valore con i romantici e con l’era contemporanea.
Anche oggi, però, se un giocatore di football imitasse pedissequamente Pelé, cioé sapesse fare in campo con la palla tutto quello che sapeva fare lui, non solo sarebbe osannato, ma anche conteso a suon di decine di milioni, anche più di cento.
