Frances è nata a Londra, in Inghilterra, nel 1967. Ha studiato lingue moderne alla South Bank University. Dopo una carriera nell’editoria si è dedicata alla sua passione, la fotografia. Si è trasferita a Boston nel 2000 e si è iscritta ai corsi serali presso il Cambridge Center for Adult Education e il Massachusetts College of Art. Ha sviluppato uno stile unico di paesaggio astratto lavorando con il vetro e la luce.
Nel 2003 si è trasferita in New Mexico e ha continuato il suo lavoro in studio con Andre Ruesch e Siegfried Halus e ha frequentato seminari presso il College of Santa Fe, incluso un seminario basato su borse di studio con Jenny Holzer. Abbandonando i suoi paesaggi astratti nel 2017, ha approfondito completamente il non-rappresentativo, incorporando tecniche appena scoperte con luce e vetro, nonché altri mezzi fotografici per manifestare le sue astrazioni.

‘ Il suo lavoro è stato esposto alla Kingston Gallery, Boston, al Stuart L. Udall Museum e alla Photo Arts Santa Fe. Ha ricevuto premi con gli International Photography Awards.

I hadn’t been out for a while, not in nature, not where the sky was full and whilst driving up towards our ski basin in Santa Fe, I saw a very large flock of large birds that could have been ravens. There were so many and I do not think that my amazement was because we are in pandemic but maybe accentuated. Anyway, a few days later I created this image. The image reminded me of this moment and I love it.

The susurrus of waves promises sleep,
And far off, at the horizon, the sky breaks through
As a band that hints of a hidden sun.
