Quest’uccello è chiamato anche Fringuello crestarossa ed è originario del sud america.
Il maschio si contraddistingue per la sua appariscente cresta rossa. La femmina ha una colorazione rosso bruna.
Non è un animale territoriale per cui tollera bene la condivisione in gabbia con altri uccelli. La sua dieta è formata principalmente di grani e di alcuni insetti.
E’ molto facile da detenere, ma molto difficile da allevare.
